Style at Home is an on-line and print magazine with a focus on interior design and decor. Although some of the content is advertiser supported, the site includes a number of useful articles on renovation trends, decorating and organization. BHG is one of the best known and trusted sources for information on design and renovation. As with Style at Home, some articles have an advertising bias however they offer some excellent tips on layout, color selection and room customizations. |
BUDGETING:
The MoneySense site contains many useful articles on budgeting and other renovation considerations. The linked article "Home Renovation Reality Check" is an excellent overview of the home improvement show industry and, more specifically, addresses things to keep in mind when basing your budget expectations on your favorite HGTV program!
Home Advisor is a U.S. based site which, among other things, provides detailed budgeting guidance for common renovation projects based upon thousands of actual remodels. The data is averaged and regionalized but still useful for "ballpark" budget starting points. |
